‘Sir, the people are extremely happy with what has been done, but they still want to send a small contribution.’ These were the words of a local healthcare provider who saw with his own eyes how big the impact was. The materials, ranging from medical instruments and bandages to essential medicines and glasses, were put to use immediately. For many in Sierra Leone, these donations make a world of difference. It is incredible how a relatively small effort in the United Kingdom can bring about such a big change in the healthcare conditions of others.

Direct impact on healthcare

The hospital in Sierra Leone is struggling with limited resources and a shortage of basic supplies. Thanks to the collected supplies, patients can now receive better care. “It’s clear to see the impact this aid has. People can hardly grasp it. It involves so many different things—this, that, and so much more. It’s still unimaginable.” These words from a local healthcare provider underscore the great need and the gratitude of the people.

A follow-up to the relief operation

This success has left us wanting more. Within two weeks, another shipment will depart with additional medical supplies, including glasses collected specifically for the hospital in Sierra Leone. “There are also the glasses promised to the hospital, so this week we still have to do some work to get everything ready.” These words underscore the importance of continued collaboration and donations. The efforts of ZGT Overzee and everyone involved demonstrate how international cooperation and solidarity can have a direct, positive impact on healthcare in areas where it is desperately needed.
