Another special shipment of medical supplies departed from the ZGT Overzee warehouse in Holten. This time, it was destined for Morocco, in collaboration with the BASMA Foundation. This foundation is led by Dr. Barbouche, a surgeon who works for underprivileged patients in regions where specialized care is not readily available. For several years, the two organizations have been working together to give medical supplies a second life. What seems unnecessary here makes a direct difference in patients’ lives there. <\/p>\n\n

Who is the BASMA Foundation?<\/h2>\n\n

The BASMA Foundation focuses on performing surgical procedures in areas where access to medical care is limited. Dr. Barbouche regularly travels to Morocco to perform surgeries, along with a medical team he brings from Brussels. These procedures are performed entirely pro bono, specifically for patients who cannot afford regular care. The foundation combines medical expertise with practical support in the form of aids and equipment. It is precisely this combination that makes the impact significant and immediately visible. <\/p>\n\n

What was collected in Holten?<\/h2>\n\n

During this visit to Holten, Dr. Barbouche collected various medical supplies. These included ostomy supplies and urological devices, such as catheters and urine collection systems. Medical instruments, blood pressure monitors, and thermometers were also collected. Mobility aids were also part of the shipment: two wheelchairs and one electric wheelchair. These supplies are used during surgeries and in the aftercare of patients in the regions where the foundation operates. <\/p>\n\n

Bring it yourself, carry it out yourself<\/h2>\n\n

The materials are not shipped in containers, but are personally brought by Dr. Barbouche when he travels to Morocco. He also takes his medical team with him to perform surgeries on site. This ensures direct control over the distribution and use of the resources. Everything brought is immediately used for patients in urgent need. He will soon return to Holten to collect materials for another region in Morocco. <\/p>\n\n
